NL25 standard preflop open amount (poker 101)
At NL10 I used 3.5BB + 1BB/limper (except sometimes from the blinds with multiple limpers I raised 1BB to 2BB more as I don't mind them all folding if I'm OOP).
I moved to NL25 today with $0.25 blinds and the old amount is an awkward number to type ($0.88 + $0.25 per limper), so I switched to 4BB + 1BB/limper. Now I'm am concerned that I'm only basically getting good hands to call me, especially if I'm first in a lot of the times I only get the blinds. The others seem to use different amounts... Should I switch to say $0.90 + $0.25 per limper or stay with 4BB? How much do you use? |

Re: NL25 standard preflop open amount (poker 101)
I use the pot button, which works out to 3.5BB+1 per limper. Truthfully I don't think there is much difference between this and 4bb+1 per limper, except that your raises get called a little more often by the blinds. I am comfortable playing postflop and don't mind getting called more often since I usually have position and play better than my opponents anyway.
All I will say is that whatever strategy you decide on, apply it consistently. Giving up information with preflop bet sizing is really bad, and is something that a lot of bad players in low stakes games do frequently. |

4BB+1. I'll bet more (ie: OOP at a loose table) but never less.
The fish still call with anything shiny. If they're not, check the table's PT stats. You may want to move. |

Like it or not, you guys have a lot of the same tendencies as one another and these can be exploited (I didn't learn poker from the 2p2 forums BTW). I will get way more floaty on low-stakes 2p2ers since they always cbet the flop and almost always give up on the turn when they are OOP and don't have a strong hand. Or raise the flop since they give up there a lot without a monster. Now that I'm writing this it seems like a thread hijack, so I guess someone could write a new thread about it they find this interesting enough. |

OK, thanks everyone.
I bet 4bb+1bb/l and it seems to work alright on some tables but I'm just getting the blinds mostly on others. I guess I'll stick with it. |

If you are only getting the blinds on some tables, then start raising a few more hands.
I bet 4BB + 1 per limper, and on tables where they fold too much, i just raise with more hands until i start getting called too much. |

[/ QUOTE ] Not giving up information with preflop betting size does not mean that you have to always bet the same whatever your hand. You can use a strategy of mixing it up to suit you (as recommended in NLHTAP). |
