Default NFL the major push of crackdowns?

How ironic that that the crackdown is 2 weeks before the super bowl. This is the biggest sports betting time of the year. This will cost the online sports betting sites millions. NFL had to have a big hand in this all the way.

Makes no sense. The NFL's viewership, I imagine, is significantly higher as a result of the fact that gamblers care about games they'd never care about but for their gambling.

[/ QUOTE ] It might not make sense but the NFL was a pretty public backer of the UIEGA in the first place.

Fox news this hour 2:00PM Central shepard smith says super bowl and Wallstreet connected to crackdown. Wow I was just jumping to conclusion, but I guess it does have ties.

People want to bet. The less they do over the internet the more they do elsewhere, simple as that.

It's the drama of it. The DOJ wants to be on TV like everyone else, they want to warn YOU not to gamble on sports at the time of year when the gambling takes place, and they are also having a little fun.

The apex of this could be something happening on Superbowl Sunday.

Through some sort of strange mechanism which I cannot begin to understand the NFL makes buckets of dough off of fantasy football leagues. The same sort of folk who participate in sports betting (I mean the casual ones) also participate in this fantasy sports hoohah, so it does not surprise me that the NFL is now looking to quash sports betting.

It's got to be in the NFL's interest that gambling remains domestic, not offshore.

It was confirmed in October that the NFL had a hand in getting the UIGEA passed.

I guess we can all make up for our new lack of online poker income by opening up a good old fashioned book making operation....
