Low stakes poker in Las Vegas

Me and some of my friends are going on a trip to USA this Easter, and we are going to spend a few days in Vegas. We all like to play poker, but we have a limited bankroll. We are students, so when we have paid for the flight, hotels, car rental and so on we don't have much money to spend. We have each about $150 that we have decided to play poker for.

I wonder where the best place for low buy in tournaments is. Are there daily tournaments with buy in about $20-30? Can we play cash games at a 1-2, or even 0.5-1 level (FL,NL holdem or FL, PL Omaha?

Does anyone any experience with low stakes in Vegas?

I am at the moment playing disiplined online poker, to try to get my bankroll a little bigger...

We are starting the trip in San Fransisco, and will be driving to LA, Arizona, Nevada, Salt Lake City and back to San Fransisco. Does anyone have any activities to recommend in this area we will be driving through? We are from Norway, so we are not so familiar with this area.

Lowest cash game in Vegas is 2/4LHE. Not worth it for casinos to spread lower then that, so they don't. Most rooms have LHE 2/4, or 3/6, and 4/8 as the lowest games. NL starts at 1/2 blinds and a 100-300 buy in at most places.

Yes, there are rooms that spread tournaments in the 20-30 level, but they are horrible tournaments with bad structures. There are decent tournaments at the $62-$75 level and good tournanaments at the $100-$200 level.

If I had $150 to use for poker in Las Vegas, I would just play 2/4 or 3/6 limit cash games, of which there are plenty. If you play fairly tight, you'll get more play for your money than playing low buy-in tournaments. If you do that, make sure you understand the tactical differences between no-limit and limit.

As Michael says, the cheapest tournaments have bad structures, meaning that the blinds are 15-20 minutes and the ratio of starting chips to blinds is low. Therefore, by the 3rd/4th round everyone is usually short-stacked and 1 or more players will be all-in on just about every hand. Only the very lucky survive to the end. IMHO the best 2 tournaments structure-wise for under $150 are Sahara's ($62 w/1 rebuy) and Caesar's noon ($130 w/1 rebuy).

Honestly, might not get much mileage at all for your 150 in Vegas. There are no limits that you are referring to. Internet limits don't exist in Vegas and 150 is a buy in at a 3/6 game.

I would recommend Joshua Tree National Park/Forest and the Hoover Dam. They are pretty unique places - take you camera.

To add to what the others said about 2/4 LHE, $100 is a standard buyin and even then you could play like a world champ and still lose $100. You could sit with $50 and play real tight just to say you played it, but I'd want more.

As mentioned above, side trips to our National Parks.
Zion can be reached from St George between LV and Salt Lake City.
Drive San Francisco -> LA, take US101 instead of I5. Bit longer, but much more scenic.
If you are taking I80 from Salt Lake to SF, look into swinging around to visit Lake Tahoe.

Best advice so far - go to allvegas poker and do some research. As other's have pointed out you've got maybe 1 buy-in plus a little. So you're not going to be playing much poker likely. The only place I can think of is Flamingo. Last time I was there they did spread 2/4 LHE. What you may want to do is find a 1/2 NL table (Flamingo, among other's have them) and try to get lucjy and build some funds.

Otherwise - as anything, depends upon funds and time, but let me throw out some suggestions. If you're driving between all the destinations you noted there are some additions I can make - check out some of the national parks like Zion and maybe Yosemite. Skiing outside of SLC at Snowbird, Alta or ParkCity. Grand Canyon? If you guys are planning on partying it up you won't be doing much of that in Utah. There are all kinds of strict rules in place because of the Mormon influence. Enjoy your trip!

25 years ago during spring break, I drove from Fayetteville, Ark to San Diego and back. I stopped in Vegas, put a quarter in a slot machine, got back in my car and drove on to Zion. I played Vegas.

That's about all you're going to do, with $150.

maybe its just me, but i dont buy in for $100 at 2/4 or $150 at 3/6...more like $60/$100
