Dealer exposing burn cards
While playing 3/6 limit HE at my favorite local casino this weekend I noticed that one of my regular, experienced dealers (who I like and don't want to see get into any trouble) was exposing her burn cards to me consistently, and occasionally the bottom card of the deck after the river was dealt as well. I was in the best seat to catch this: seat 4 in a 9 handed game, a position that I do not often find myself. I had not noticed this before with this dealer, or with anyone else at this casino. I'm not sure if the dealer's technique is consistently bad or if this was just temporary sloppiness. It is theoretically possible that the dealer was doing it intentionally for my benefit, but very highly doubtful (we do not know each other at all). Since this is my home casino I want to have a good relationship with dealers and floor personnel, but also maximize EV. I also want to be ethical to the spirit of the game.
On this day I kept my mouth shut, my eyes open and made best use of the information. Could this be considered cheating or angle shooting on my part? Do I have a responsibility to the card room in this area? Would keeping quiet and trying to use this in the future really be the most +EV in the long run, since I often won't be in a favorable seat? If I were to tell someone, would it be to a floorman or the dealer herself if possible? Malmuth's writings in Poker Essays V2 indicate that I should probably tell the floor man. What do others think? |

Re: Dealer exposing burn cards
You should wait until you are not sitting in seat 4, and the person who is sitting in seat 4 beats you out of a huge pot by using information from this flashing dealer. Then raise holy hell, try to claim the pot is yours, scream, cuss, and stomp your feet. This behavior will make you a real true poker player.
