winrates 2/4, 3/6, 5/10
not an easy question to ask as anyone can lie and exaggerate here
but ive just started playing 3/6 and have no meaningful stats as yet. opposition standard as opposed to 2/4 is not much different. For those of you who play 2/4 and also 3/6 or higher, i'm curious as to how your bb/100 changed at 3/6 and even 5/10. After playing 2/4 for 34,000 hands my bb/100 was 1.72 mainly on UB. What can i expect in the jump up, will the rake have less of an impact at this rate? Is it worth the extra investment to skip 3/6 and play 5/10 as the rake has less of an impact at this level. I'm very cautious and will not take shots at higher limits as i think you are asking for trouble and i only play with 500BB in my bankroll, but maybe its worth the extra investment to skip out on a limit where rake effects profit significantly. |

I hate to play insufficient-sample-size-police... but 34k hands really says nothing about your winrate. Your true winrate can easily be in the negatives still. I wouldn't skip levels, you'll be playing with scared money at 5/10; almost a guarantee for losing.

[ QUOTE ]
After playing 2/4 for 34,000 hands my bb/100 was 1.72 mainly on UB. [/ QUOTE ] I think 1.72/100 is an excellent winrate. I think you are probably a good player. However, I think you should play at the very least 60K hands and beyond to get a better idea of your winrate. [ QUOTE ] will the rake have less of an impact at this rate? Is it worth the extra investment to skip 3/6 and play 5/10 as the rake has less of an impact at this level. [/ QUOTE ] I have played hundreds of thousands of hands at both 3/6 and 5/10. I think it would depend on what site you are playing, etc. However, I have found that in general there isn't much relief in rake when you get up to 5/10. I think jumping to 5/10 from 2/4 for this or any other reason I can think of would be a bad move. As I understand, 10/20 is the level where the rake starts to hurt much less... |

Re: winrates 2/4, 3/6, 5/10
Ok, maybe I sounded a bit harsh... yes, it is a nice winrate. Excellent even. However, people seriously underestimate the required sample sizes to accurately determine winrates. A million hands would be a start. In 100k hands it can easily swing up or down by a whole BB or more.

Well it's reasonable to assume you're a winning player.

people seriously underestimate the required sample sizes to accurately determine winrates. [/ QUOTE ] yeah, ive been guilty of that in the past when i first started. I remember for my first 5K hands at 1/2 having a win rate of about 7, resulting in phil ivey syndrome thinking i was some kind of poker god, only to come crashing back down to earth very shortly |
