Default is it ever correct to bet less than 1/2 the pot?

i'm wondering if maybe i'm making pots too big with some of my not-so-strong hands. i feel like making very small bets is basically an invitation to get raised/bluffed off the pot. but i dunno? can anyone think of a situation where it's correct to make a bet of 1/4 or 1/3 the pot? any HH's?

i do it against bad players all the time when their hands are obvious and i want to get paid off.

i don't do it against anyone i perceive as decent though, as it usually makes my hands obvious.

also, you don't want to get into the habit of doing this because you want to be able to bet big with you big hands.

I do it pretty much only on the river, and only against weak players. These are players that I can read for a hand that just can't call a big bet, but that I know like to show down top or second pair just in case I 3 barreled them or my turn check behind meant weakness.

I only do it on the river, or occasionally on drawy boards against agressive villains with the near nuts. They'r very likely to bluff of there stacks against a lead thats viewed weak.

Nah, if you are vs someone you don't play against too much but know they will raise weak bets a lot its fine. Doesn't come up very often, so meh.
