A8o, M=9, Push over limpers?
$6+.50 2 table turbo. About 12 people left. Hand, stack size, and position make this seem like a marginal push to me. What does everyone else think?

your effective M is really about 6.You're a smaller stack at the table. It's a push.

Re: A8o, M=9, Push over limpers?
I probably fold this. There is an UTG limper and 3 players to act. I wouldn't push for 4xpot with an easily dominated hand.

Re: A8o, M=9, Push over limpers?
I'm curious to which conditions have to be present to push over limpers. I don't push here, I usually instafold A8o here, but maybe I should push more.
I can see it working here because hero's stack is big enough to hurt the limpers and thus having enough FE to be profitable. In the same situation, but with e.g. 150/300 blinds or with hero on a shorter stack like 6-700-ish I find that people will usually call with a limped AQ-AT, pocket pair or some random broadway trash. I understand the situation is really marginal, but how zealous do you have to be when it comes to plays like this. I open push any day of the week and twice on sundays, but I hate pushing over limpers. I usually need at least a good pocket pair or AQ+ (sometimes AJ), but I might just be a nit. Also, how different would this situation be if it were a Sit&Go. |

Re: A8o, M=9, Push over limpers?
In a $6 turbo a UTG limp doesn't mean disguised strength. it means that some lemur has a mediocre starting hand and they want to see a cheap flop; they don't want to raise because they don't want to get re-raised. For this reason, in this situation, I am not scared by the limper. I view the limp as dead money and as an additional reason to push, plus what I mentioned earlier - the effective M is 6 until the "final" table when it doubles. I wouldn't be pushing aces worse than A8, but I would push pairs 55 or higher, and just about any two broadway cards except JTo and QTo.

Re: A8o, M=9, Push over limpers?
I dont usually do this until I have 10BB's or less. That way you're adding atleast 20% to your stack, making it worth the risk.

Re: A8o, M=9, Push over limpers?
my feeling is that the limper has a suited connector and wants to see a cheap flop. I'd imagine you'll see a fair amount of j10s, 910s. With small PP's - lower than 7 the majority of the rest.
You have to put your money in some time - the limper in this hand shouldn't detract you from getting it in there. |
