2-7 with 237 in the SB. A check-up.
Hypothetical situation.
Average, solid-type player opens on the button. Hero has 237xx in the SB and calls. BB folds. Both draw 2 and hero makes 23579. Hero is better off staying pat than drawing to the 7 correct? Does this change if the BB called the raise too? |

Re: 2-7 with 237 in the SB. A check-up.
I'd 3bet in the sb with 237 vs a button open, but that's not the question. Yes, you're correct to stand pat after the first draw in a HU pot with button with the 975. If the BB had called I think the play is to donk out the 975 and hope the pot somehow becomes HU between you and someone else. C/R someone is the more likely way to make this happen, but it's also the most likely way to be in a catastrophical situation of having it checked around. If they both call after the draw then I'm drawing to 2357.

All 7 draws, only smooth 7's? What about a smooth 8 such as 238? Against chronic stealers and bad players I already 3-bet these kinds of hands but I am less sure what to do against good, solid competition. |

Re: 2-7 with 237 in the SB. A check-up.
I 3bet any 2 card draw I'm going to play against a button open. The same goes for most CO opens. Against a raise from any other position I just call the 1.5 bets with all my 2 card 7s and fold everything else unless the guy opening is crazy or I have some special reason to not fold.
