Default Iron, please make an anti-hijacking rule!

Ishmael's Theorem: as a thread in 2p2: Politics increases in length, the probability that the thread will contain a debate of or relating to anarchocapitalism - regardless of the topic of the original post - approaches 1.

[/ QUOTE ]

Now I love the idea of anarchocapitalism, believe me. And I enjoy debating the merits of it. However, I don't feel like every thread coming down to it. Others have suggested a forum split. I don't think we need one. We could use rules against hijacking threads though, and it is needed badly.

Some posters against those rules have said that it's going to be hard to judge what constitutes hijacking and what doesn't. Certainly we can discuss what those rules would be, and the repercussions for breaking them. That's what this thread is for.

I mean think about it. If you want to discuss something else, how hard is it to just start a new thread? Not hard at all. A decent chunk of my last few OPs have been just that, discussions within threads that deserved it's own topic and actually stopped what would have been a hijack off the topic of the OP.

It's so rare that threads just....get hijacked. More often it evolves into an AC discussion.

I think Iron had a really good point here:

[ QUOTE ]

Since many people seem to be complaining about "AC hijacks", I would like everyone to keep this in mind: If an ACist makes a post in a minimum wage thread, ask yourself "Is this argument the same argument a conservative might make?" In a drug legalization thread, ask yourself "Is this argument the same argument a liberal might make?" If the answer to these questions is yes, that post is not an AC hijack. I think if you follow this advice, you will find that most posts made by ACists are not hijacks.

[/ QUOTE ]

Although, admitedly what usually happens is someone will identify the poster as an ACist and say something along the lines of "AC sucks" and then the thread becomes an AC thread.

Well played, sir. I still find it a funny little contradiction though.
