Default missing oregon climbers question

why didn't these guys have some kind of GPS device that would also transmit their position to a ranger station - kind of like a lo-jack system on cars.

because... contrary to what the media wants you to believe... these guys were not professional climbers.

From what I've seen... I highly doubt they were even "seasoned" climbers.

There is a BIG difference between being and out-doorsman and being a professional climber / mountain-taker.

good question. Not sure about GPS devices but they should have been wearing transponders (peeps). At least with peeps you have a slightly greater chance of surviving an avalanche and rescuers will always be able to find the body. They are standard equipment for winter outdoor enthusiasts.

Why are they spending so much money + resources on these two guys when there's people dying every day from crap that doesn't involve them wandering into the freezing wilderness completely underprepared.

most state agencies, as well as the military, write off these costs as training.

They wanted to save the five bucks it costs at the ranger station to get the GPS/locator thing. No joke.
