Default Airplane ettiquite

Just curious what OOT thinks about leaning back in your chair during a flight. Is it always ok? Should you only do it when you want to sleep? Never ok?

I recently went on a trip to new dehli. On the flight to and from, the person in front me had their chair leaned back all the time. This really annoyed the [censored] out of me. I usually only only lean my chair back when i want to sleep. Just curious if im in the wrong to be annoyed here.

I lean mine back most of the time. There's no rule for this, as soon as the plane crosses 10,000ft (this is when the stewardesses start moving around), you can recline at will. The only time I had someone complain was one time when I was in first class and the woman said my chair was in her food. Since the chairs in frist recline so much, I went ahead and straightened it.

However, below 10,000ft, this is a no-no. I will always tell the person in front of me to raise their seat if we are coming in to land. Every once in a while a rough landing will cause people to jolt forward and if a seat is back it will break the face of the person behind it. That's why 'seatbacks up' is an FAA rule.

Most people I find are pretty liberal and okay with seat-reclining.

While this doesn't really come up anymore, I think the only time that everybody should straighten their chair is when meals are being served.

If I flew even a little more often, I'd spend the few bucks on a Knee Defender.

I am anti-recline in coach, couldn't care less in business or 1st. If you're over 6 feet tall it really sucks to have your knees or laptop bashed by the seat in front of you.

If it bothers me I politely ask the person not to recline, and generally they understand.

If you're over 6 feet tall though, you're the one who wants to be reclined for the added room (or at least the illusion or more space).

That's why I always recline.
