Default Top 25 Videogame Franchises

IGN's Top 25 Franchises

They've only released #21-25 so far but I thought this could spark some good discussion. They will release an additional 5 each day this week.

25. Virtua Fighter
24. Half-Life
23. Donkey Kong
22. Tetris
21. Command & Conquer

Mario HAS to be #1. If it isn't, the writers are on crack. My top 10 would go something like this (off the top of my head, I could have forgotten something).

1. Mario
2. Zelda
3. Final Fantasy
4. Street Fighter
5. Madden
6. Metroid
7. Civilization
8. Tony Hawk
9. MegaMan
10. Pokemon

Did I forget anything?

I've only played one Castlevania game so I don't have enough experience to place it.

Meh...when I think of classic RTS games, I think of Age of Empires and Starcraft. The Civ and Tony Hawk franchises are pretty much the center of their respective genres.

Do you consider all of the "Mario" games when rating the Mario franchise(ie. Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, Mario Kart, etc.)...or only Mario Bros. 1, 2, 3, Land (not sure how many), World, 64, sunshine and the like?

This makes a difference IMO. I'm assuming you may be counting them all since you didn't put Mario Kart on your list, but I would only count the dedicated Mario games, and therefore would say Zelda FTW, with FF a somewhat close 2nd.

Also, I have noticed that the MGS series has been hated on in this forum a little, but it should be ahead of Pokemon...no? I don't know too much about Pokemon, so feel free to correct me if I am way off here...although the fact that I don't know much about it tells me I'm probably not that far off.

If it weren't for the success of Warcraft and Warcraft 2, Starcraft wouldn't have existed. The Warcraft series made rts games a huge success.

I like most of your list although I would get rid of Pokemon and Civ and replace them with Metal Gear and GTA. I would also swap Mario and Zelda.
