Default Processor Speeds

I am looking to purchase an HP dv6000t for college/poker.

For my processor, I am choosing between:

Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5600(1.83GHz/2MB L2Cache) ($225)

and

Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache) ($325)

Which one is a better value and why?

The more expensive one is faster. You probably wouldn't notice unless running them side by side. If you have a crazy big PT DB you may find it marginally faster with the more expensive one.

the second one has twice the onboard Cache, that is really what you are paying for. That will give a nice boost in memory intensive applications. Peformance per dollar may be better with the cheaper chip, but not by much.

Does FTP+PAHUD+PT+Itunes+AHKscript(probably 2-4) qualify as memory intensive?

Might getting the more expensive processor be the difference between FTP LAAAAG and FTP no lag?

I have the T5600 in a Dell with 2 GB of RAM and it is very nice. I've had no problem with FTP lag at all, but I also wonder if that might be a problem with your inernet connection, more than processor speed. I would think the T5600 would be plenty, but if the $100 is no problem, go for it. Personally, the T5600 has been great for me and I don't need anything else. I can run FT, PT, PAHUD, iTunes, Photoshop, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc with no problems.

It would definitely qualify.

For those talking about the FTP lag, I have seen some post that state that if you do not open the cashier window there will not be a lag problem, my bonus expired it so I haven't tried it yet.

personally, I'd go with the 512MB RAM and the Intel Core 1 Uno...but that's me.
