I wanna be a nut-peddling nit
Hi. I'm new to No Limit so I don't really know what I am doing yet, but I've been thinking about a quantity of quality approach if that would help reduce variance. In other words, would an ultra tight approace be enough to eke out a small win rate and would this reduce your variance? What type of strategy generally has the lowest variance?
I read some post a while back saying you could win around 2PTBB/100 by only pushing with AA,KK, and AK. Is this true (I'm talking about only low limits, of course-up to NL 100)? Is anyone doing this? I would rather play 800 hands per hour at this win rate, than 400 hands an hour at 4-5 PTBB/100. Especially if my variance would be a lot lower. I'm no math wiz, but is it possible that playing like this would actually increase variance since you would be missing out on a lot of other money making opportunites? Of course, I guess I could just actually learn to play NL instead. Sorry for the dumb questions, but I've been a limit grinder for a long time and I am new to NL. Thanks for your help, I'm sure I will get the hang of this NL stuff eventually. |

Re: I wanna be a nut-peddling nit
Read SSNL Master Sticky, it is gold, including tips on converting from limit to NL.
If you can play winning limit, then you can pick up NL, so skip the ubertight/shortstack/deviant approaches and just start to learn the game right, at low stakes where you won't get hurt. |

Re: I wanna be a nut-peddling nit
I'm not even sure if this is a winning strategy at $100nl. You mean just open push AA/KK/AK and fold everything else?

Re: I wanna be a nut-peddling nit
It's not a winning strategy. You'll only get these hands about once every 5 orbits in a 10 handed game. So, to show a 2 bb/$100 profit, you will need to win 8 1/2 bb every time you get them. You're not going to get that, especially if you open-push them.
Be honest, you don't really wanna play this way, you're building a bot. Well, good luck, but if you wanna make money you need to build a more sophisticated one than that, and you also have to factor in the risk of having your account frozen if you get caught. |

Re: I wanna be a nut-peddling nit
if you have a 2ptbb/100 winrate your variance will be much higher than if you had a 6ptbb/100 winrate

For the sake of argument, though, why would I bother to make a bot, can't I just buy one from that win hold em site or whatever its called? |

Re: I wanna be a nut-peddling nit
OP, if you want to play push or fold pocker, play Sit n Goes. There, you can use a push or fold strategy to win. I think it's in their sticky or something, but there's a pretty good post about this strategy, and it's a good way to get comfortable with the dynamics of playing poker.
Then, once you've seen what's what, you can expand your game. |
