If I remember from gigabet's story correctly, he starting ruling the stt after playing a lot of them and cracking them by study and practice. I'm curious exactly how he started thinking about these tournaments(obv?), and wanted to know a detail if not more insight to how he went about studying how to beat these games for crazy $.
My understanding is that the basic formula for those serious about sng success today here is 1. Practice, 2. mess with sngpt 3. repeat 4. profit Did he have sngpt, icm, or anything similar? Did he just learn by practice? Mysterious method which led to cracking the game? Cheers Sidenote: What's giga currently up to? |

ICM really isnt that significant a change in the game. Youve got to remember back in the old days STTF discusses stuff quite naively, but at least 95% of what we did would be considered correct by ICM standards.
I still remember the threads where peoples advice often came down to "i push all in, i play for first" Couple in the fact that there were few playing STTs as well the forum regulars and you basicly have a formula that means the games were quite beatable for a long time with little effort. I do wonder where id be if id moved to party and learnt to multitable earlier. By the time ICM came around, im guessing Giga messed with it for a bit. At the same time, he never came off as a huge math guy unlike Aleo and eastbay - so him never using these tools really wouldnt shock me a great deal. Apparently he is now touring the live circuit and hit a couple big scores not long ago. Google "gigabet hendon mob database" and the first result should list his live scores. The bigger question is what happened to Aleomagus? Edit: with a little digging i found he still posts under Aleo - so the dude is still around at least. |

Phil,
I don't understand from your post, when gigabet arrived at party moving quickly up the tourneys, was icm/sngpt even available? |

ICM has been around less than two years.
SNGPT has been around a year or so. I think, i could be slightly off on these figures. Certainly, giga wasnt using ICM when he started at the 215s, and im pretty sure it wasnt available back when he won those two 1K SnGs that party ran. |
