Hyper extended knee
So last night when I was swimming laps my knee buckled and is presumaly hyper extended. Im still limping around but its starting to hurt more. Any suggestions OOT to alleviate the pain besides aspirin? Anyone ever do this before? If so, did you just get like an ace bandage and let time do its thing or are there other methods out there?

Re: Hyper extended knee
Presumably there's swelling, and the alternating application of cold (ice) and hot (flannels or heatpads) every few minutes is usually used in sports for this. I'm talking from vague recollection though, so it's the best you'll get till someone who knows what they're talking about arrives.

I'm sorry to say, but you may have to amputate.

Re: Hyper extended knee
Get someone to get you the frozen bags of corn or peas...its cheaper than ice and molds to your knee better than a bunch of cubes.
Stay off it for a few days if possible and keep ice when you're not planning on doing anything, I've found that heating it before you start moving helps as well. |

I jumped up for a pass and when I came down my knee hyperextended. I wasn't even hit. Needless to say it confused everyone else why I was writhing around the ground in pain jump from landing. It hurts a lot. As said, I couldn't really walk on it for a couple days and then it got better. The weird part is that when you TRY to walk on it, it feels like your knee is going to just bend all the way back. Since the muscle is stretched...I'm guessing that is what happens. It freaked me out bigtime. Stay off it as much as you can and definitely don't put pressure on it if it is hyperextended. |

Re: Hyper extended knee
I did that in HS football and that knee is still looser than the other one to this day.
It never goes back completely.........without proper PT, that is. |
