Default Party performance problems - Computer too slow?

I used to 12-table Stars while running PT and PAHUD without experiencing any performance problems.

Now at Party (running PT, PAHUD and MTH) even 6-tabling has become a big problem.
Tables are sometimes frozen for several seconds after popping on top, PAHUD needs 1-2 seconda for drawing the numbers and the buttons appear after that.

I am using a AMD Athlon 2000XP+, 1.67 Ghz and 256 MB Ram.

Sorry for being unspecific. I am a hardware donk. Any ideas?

Define "running" PT. Are you importing? That's likely the highest processor drag. How often are you importing?

256MB is just barely enough to run XP and my guess is that you need more memory (~512MB or more) to run all those apps.

Is your hard disk light flashing on/off alot when you get the slowdown problem? If so, then this hints that alot of memory is getting paged in/out of your swapfile due to the lack of physical memory.

If thatīs the case how come everything works fine on Stars?
MTH alone does not make the difference, I shut it down and had the same problems with Party.

I think the Stars client is possibly coded better and is more optimised (it uses hardly any CPU time too, as opposed to Party which hogs near 100% on most systems when multitabling).

I think MTH is prolly the least likely app to be causing you problems, with the party client most likely the culprit and PT being a close second (it can end up using a heck of a lot of memory if you do a big import).

FWIW, I have almost the same system as you describe (with only a 1.4GHz CPU, but with 512MB of RAM) and I used to be able to 9-table Party (with resized tables) + PT + PAHUD + a few other helped apps/scripts without too many problems.
