Did I get a fair ruling?
Just sat down at a 15/30 game, previously I had been playing 10/20. I pick up a hand worth raising UTG, and still in the 10/20 mindset I throw out $20 and say "raise". Nobody hears me say raise because I wasn't very loud. After a few folds, the dealer tries pushing back $5 and I'm like "WTF, no, that's a raise." and he says "No, a raise would be $30." I'm like "Oh yeah" and throw out $30. A couple nits are like "OMG string raise he didn't announce it." and I say "Yes, actually I did announce it." but nobody heard it and a couple people at the far end of the table insist that they know for a fact I never said raise. Floor gets called and I know what he is going to rule, because I play at this casino all the time, the floor person has known me for years and knows I don't angle shoot and I don't lie about whether I said raise or not. Floor says "The player announced raise, it is a raise." I'm glad I got the ruling but I was wondering if an unknown would have received the same treatment. I'm guessing not, and I'm wondering if that is fair, and if my history should be considered when making a ruling like that?

Re: Did I get a fair ruling?
In keeping to the spirit of the game, I'd say considering your history is fair. It'd be more suspect if people thought you raised and you were claiming you didn't. Don't sweat it, but next time, be more careful.

Re: Did I get a fair ruling?
By your own admission, nobody heard you. In that case, you didn't announce anything.
Considering your history is a TERRIBLE idea. Anyone who witnessed this ruling is thinking, "That is a blatant case of showing favoritism to a local. I wonder how much he tips her, to get rulings like that?" How could a tourist think anything else? |

Re: Did I get a fair ruling?
Your reputation should be considered. If the floor knows that you are an honest player, he should consider this when making his decision. He should not, however, allow the mere fact that you are a regular to influence his ruling.

FWIW, this was in Biloxi, so it's mostly locals, and I know the one person who was being the most vocal about forcing me into a call is a regular player there. In fact I'm probably the tourist there since I live 3 hours away and only play there on weekends. |

[/ QUOTE ] This is where you say "Oh, I've only played a couple of times....sorry.", and take your $5 back. IMHO.....-EV for identifying yourself as a regular player and knowing to call the floor for a dispute. Had you been at "home" and playing with a bunch of guys you knew, my response would be different. |

Re: Did I get a fair ruling?
I'm certainly not an expert. But from past experience I'm surprised the floor called it a raise. I thought he was going to say because 2 or 3 people have acted since your bet that if they treated it as a call then it would staya call.
Was this in Tunica? |

If the floor knows you that well, you are a 'local'. |

Re: Did I get a fair ruling?
Speak up.
not too hard to speak loud enough and without your hands covered over your mouth for SOMEONE at the table to hear you. If it had been me I would have taken responsibility for the lack of volume in my voice and admitted that I didn't say it loud enough. Getting the floor to rule with you on this probably didn't go over very well with the rest of the table and I would think that should be considered too. Keeping the rest of the table content isn't such a bad idea. I also don't think the floor made the right decision. If the dealer nor the players sitting right next to you heard you say raise then I think the floor should tell you, "You might have said it....but it doesn't count if it's at sub-human volumes. Speak up next time." |
