Default Party Poker not accepting U.S. wagers, but will bill inactive accounts

I haven't been playing online for money for a while, but I have been goofing around in the free play on Party Poker. They've recently stated that due to new legislation, they are no longer accepting wagers or deposits from U.S. players. However, they WILL charge you $5 per month ("inactive fee") after 180 days of not wagering. Because I haven't been playing money games for a while, I just got hit with the $5 fee. I called and asked how they could do this if they weren't even accepting wagers to keep accounts "active", they admitted that they will still be deducting the $5 after 180 days if no wagers (or money tourneys, etc.) are made / played. WITHDRAW ALL OF YOUR MONEY NOW. The guy I spoke to said if there's no money in your account, that's O.K., the account remains and you can still play for free. BUT, if there's money in the account, they'll take the $5 per month for not gambling real money (after 180 days). Basically, if you leave your money in a Party Poker account, you'll eventually be penalized. Are other sites doing this too?

Yep, I haven't played Party in over a year or so and just got that email. Fired one back and told them to close the account. I don't have any money in it anyway.

Think I'll close UB just for good measure.

One possibility
1) There are many more party players without 2+2 accounts than those with.
2) Therefore, it is most likely that the first people to encounter this are not 2+2ers.
3) A good chunk of people who encounter this problem think it's serious enough to discuss with other players.
4) No discussion exists currently.
5) Combining 2, 3, and 4, it's not that unusual to see the person starting discussion have no previous posts.

Either that or he's a troll.

Most sites charge money on 'inactive' accounts, there was a thread about a site charging 10%, that's way more rediculous than 5$. More importantly why would you keep money in PP if you're from the US?

Here's what i got today:

"Dear MrSpecialist,
Our records show that that you have not logged in to your account for 180 days.

A $$5 administration fee* has been charged to your inactive account. The next charge will be deducted from you account balance on: 01-Dec-2006.

However, this fee will NOT be charged if your account, or any related account, is reactivated on or before 30-Nov-2006.

Reactivating your account is easy: Just log in and place a cash wager, enter a tournament with a cash entry fee, or play a raked hand.

*TERMS & CONDITIONS If you do not access your Account by "logging on" to your Account using your Account name and password for any period of 180 days, then after those 180 days (the "180 day grace period") your Account (and any related account with any ESP) will be deemed "Inactive". If your Account becomes Inactive, then the Company is entitled to charge you an administrative fee (the "Inactive Account Fee"). The Inactive Account Fee shall be deducted from your Account Balance at the end of each calendar month in accordance with the Inactive Account Fee Schedule. We will stop deducting the Inactive Account Fee from your Account Balance if your Account is re-activated.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our Customer Care team is available 24/7.

Sincerely,

Party Team
