is my reasoning wrong on the following... fitness thread
If you do 20 minutes of intense cardio in the morning on an empty stomach, your body will burn fat to meet this energy output. Then in the evening, you lift weights. You still make sure to eat an extra 300-500 calories daily to build muscle. Most muscle is going to be built while you sleep. So you build muscle while you sleep, and in the morning you burn off fat on an empty stomach, allowing you to both gain muslce, and lose fat at the sametime.

Not really. You should think in terms of months, not days, when it comes to muscle gain and weight loss.

you are probably wrong.
I think its probably unhealthy to do 20 min of intense cardio before you eat. |

no, when you are in starvation mode (ie after sleeping) the first thing your body canabalizes is muscle not fat.

Re: is my reasoning wrong on the following... fitness thread
when you talk about an empty stomach, are you implying that your body would burn breakfast before it's digested?

[/ QUOTE ] He's right about the first part, your body will burn more fat after sleeping. As for trying to get a cutting phase and growing phase into the same day...who knows. Try it and let us know maybe? |

Re: is my reasoning wrong on the following... fitness thread
Wrong, kind of. Your body will burn more fat when you dont have anything in your stomach, but it you will burn too much muscle in ratio to the fat, enough so that you are just basically spinning your wheels by doing this. No one on 2p2 is going to revolutionize working out and figure some stupendous way to lose fat and gain muscle in the same cycle (w/o drugs/newbness)

You body needs the fat more than the muscle, so it will use the muscle as energy first (burning it away) because you're tricking it into thinking that it needs to save all the nutrients it can. |

Re: is my reasoning wrong on the following... fitness thread
A few things I've read regarding this -
Cottage cheese is a good thing to eat right before you go to bed because it's very high in a certain type of protein (Cassein) which is slow digesting and stops your body from going catabolic (burning muscle for energy). There's also protein blends that are made for this, but cottage cheese is supposed to be pretty good (Lucerne Low Fat is tasty) Also, I've read that it's good to eat protein first thing in the morning to get your body out of a catabolic state. So it would probably be a good idea to have a protein shake (like Whey protein) that digests quickly and gives your body protein before you go do your morning cardio. |

If you do exercise that requires more calories than what you're taking in, you'll burn fat AND muscle to convert to calories to burn, won't you?
I don't think your reasoning is sound here, but I'm not a physiologist. |
