Default do you ever float?

Float: to coldcall preflop with the intention of raising a big street to buy a fold.

I just about never see this move anymore. It used to give me fits when intelligent people did it.

I never do it. Because it bothers me midhand sometimes, I probably should every so often - though I'm not so particularly good at picking hands and opponents with which to attempt this kind of thing.

Do you ever float?
Does it mess with your game when others float you?
If you do float, what kind of spots do you look for?
If you dont, do you think that you're missing value?
If you suspect someone of floating, what's your immediate counterstrategy?
etc.?
