sneaking in chips about the max buy in
1/2NL with a $200 max buy in - real fishy game with somewhat deep stakes
i just get to the table from another table with a few chips left and ask the dealer for $150 in chips. it appears that i have $200 total after that on the table but i actualy have 4 green chips hidden in my stack. 2 questions: 1. is this terribly unethical to the game? 2. Is this something i can realy use to my advantage since the game is somewhat deepstaked and i play much better/confident deepstaked. |

Re: sneaking in chips about the max buy in
Just ask for a table change and add them while you're moving. Some nit will probably notice that you added while at the table.

Re: sneaking in chips about the max buy in
I am that nit. Hiding large denomination chips is an angle shoot. I would wait until you were involved in a pot with me, and if it were to my advantage, call the floor over and ask that your hidden large denomination chips be declared not in play.
Don't angle shoot us nits, we shoot back. |

Re: sneaking in chips about the max buy in
Hiding larger denomination chips from view of others sure seems unethical to me, especially when it violates the capped buyin.

Unethical? This is flat out against the rules and 100% angle shoot. Hiding large denomination chips, in general, is an angle shoot and the dealer should demand that you put your large chips in front.

Re: sneaking in chips about the max buy in
While I understand your desire to play with a larger stack, the rules of the game are what they are. When you sit to play you agree to abide by those rules.

How are ethics like, not built in to people's minds. Like I understand a few situations where it's a tad grey, but I can't understand how one would not see this as unethical by any stretch.

[ QUOTE ] Just ask for a table change and add them while you're moving. Some nit will probably notice that you added while at the table. [/ QUOTE ] How is this relevant to the question that he asked? [/ QUOTE ] In LA some clubs (e.g., Hawaiian Gardens) require that you bring all chips on a table change, while other clubs (e.g., Commerce, Bike, Hollywood Park) require that you start again with the fixed buy or an amount that lies between the spread (if a spread buy, such as the 300-500 game at the Bike). IMO the relatively small capped (or spread) buy is one of the main reason that these games are good. Some players try to get around it, and in most LA clubs it's up to the players to object or police the buy-in policies, especially on a table change. Naturally if a known "live one" takes a table change and tries to bring more than the cap (when it technically isn't allowed), the players will often "not notice" (i.e., they accept the live players extra action). OTOH, when a tough player tries the same move, the players will usually object. ~ Rick |
