Default Showtime\'s \"Dexter\": random thoughts

- The fact that its going to be hard to dislodge Michael C. Hall as a gay undertaker isn't made easy when he spends a lot of time around dead bodies and is asexual. There was an odd line, I don't remember it exactly, but he says something along the lines of " and men, I've been comfortably aware of that situation for a while now". I butchered the line, but it's kinda in that range.

- So, no one notices these people missing a few days after he looks at their police file?

- Do these snuff websites have ACTUAL killings by easily identifiable people, or was that just a really slipshod premise?

- Over/under on how long before he kills an innocent, thinking he was guilty: 8 weeks

- He just gets done with a killing himself and happens to have THE ice truck behind him, which after being followed a bit, does a U-Turn at a bridge out, throws a head at his car, and he doesn't even follow him? I'm guessing the head wouldn't be all that traumatic to this guy. Is this standard operating procedure for the hooker chopper; throw heads at tailgaters?

- Why the [censored] is there so much [censored] swearing in this [censored] show? I've worked in [censored] auto shops that didn't have that much [censored] swearing in them. I mean " Thanks for the F'ing donut"? Are you [censored] kidding me with this? The [censored] scenes with the [censored] black male cop seemed to be exceptionally [censored] gratuitous with its [censored] swearing. Memo to hollywood: Cussing != Gritty.

- Diving directly into the "The killer knows who I am" angle is pretty weak IMHO. How exactly does he know anything at all about Dexter? If this isn't justified in future shows, it will be very annoying.

- Am I the only one who thinks they are over-fleshing out how "empty and hollow" he is inside?

I REALLY want to like this show, but it needs to be more plausible. I'm giving it a lot of latitude, as pilots have to not only set the scene for the series, but introduce characters, define plot lines, etc., but I'd like a bit more dealing with reality, even though it's a bit of a fantasy.

I liked the first show and expected some things to be stretched. I expected this being the premise of the show is quite unordinary. I can't disagree with you, but will have a better opinion on the show after a few more episodes.

I thought the first show was very good, and although I do agree with you on some points, I am very good at realizing that I am in fact just watching a show. I'd rather be entertained and not let little things bother me then be questioning every small detail that maybe wasn't completely believable.

his acting felt very fake to me, almost like it was a little forced or something. normally this would be bad, but it actually works with his character.

hopefully this makes sense

Yeah, this is definitly a problem for me; I'm WAY too critical of shows, even when I go in giving a lot of latitude. With TV series', I can only take it for 3 or 4 episodes until I say, " Ok, why are James Caan and Josh Duhamel the ONLY security members to EVER chase a criminal through the casino?" and just give up on the show. I'd really rather that not happen with this one.

Ok, but that makes it even MORE ludicrous. He's investigating this guy, and the guy is investigating him? Like I said, if they don;t make this plausbile, and soon, it might be it for the show with me.

I'm sure they're petrified..

Dexter talks about how he has to fake being like everyone else, so the actor's stiffness is likely intentional.

I liked the fact that he didn't react at all to the mean cop yelling at him. As he'd said earlier that he was incapable of feeling emotions, it makes perfect sense that being yelled at doesn't upset him or anger him at all. He doesn't do upset or angry.

Watching it now, don't like it much so far. Dali's point about the swearing is totally spot on, this is the most retarded use of cursing I've ever seen on TV. Too heavy-handed, and his character isn't very interesting. I do really like the lead actor, though I don't think he's doing a great job so far with this.

I dunno I'll probably finish this episode and MAAAAAYBE watch one more.
