Default Help me pick out a new tv

I need to buy a new tv and I don't know anything about what to buy. I'm looking for something pretty big, but don't want to spend a lot of money. Hopefully some people who know some electronics stuff can help me out.

Here are two I found online that are 50+ inches and under $1k:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...d=1149040489796

Anything wrong with either of these? Something else I should be looking for? Anywhere I can get tv's as good or better somewhere else for a good price?

Samsung 46" DLP

Its smaller and more expensive than you are looking for though I guess.

Anything I should be looking for in a tv? What is important in a tv that I probably wouldn't know about?

I would go with one of the Sony rear projection LCDs. I have one that's a couple of years old. They have come down in price since then and my friend has one and I even convinced my father in law to get one. The 42 inch is closer to the price you seem to be looking for. I think the 50 inch is 1800 or so. Anyway the picture on these is excellent for what you pay. It's been a while since I looked into it but at the time I found it was the best picture I could get for the cost. All these high end TVs have their "issues" though- check out CNET for some reviews.

Do you think the ones I was looking at would not be good?

For 900 bucks u can't go wrong with that Hitachi.

If you can wait (and have the time) I'd wait for black Friday. BB always has 1 or 2 super sweet deals on TV's.

I would not buy either one, I think you'll regret it in a year. They take up alot of space and they look horrible if you're watching it from any other angle than straight on. If you have to stick to the $800-$1000 range, I'd wait another year as TV prices are falling rapidly. If you can afford to go a little higher, I'd look at these two

Also, the best time to buy a TV is around Xmas and the Super Bowl, generally speaking.

And here's what I have and it's pretty cheap from Amazon.com

How do you know that they'll look horrible? Is there something in the description that tells you??
