Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
Situation: You're on a double-date. You are good friends with the other guy, but don't really know his girlfriend too well. Also, your girlfriend doesn't know your friend's girlfriend at all really. You are directed to your table, which is actually two smaller rectangle tables pushed together to form a square. There are two seats on opposing sides of the square.
What is the proper seating arrangement? As a bonus, I present you with the urinal dilemma. Situation: You walk into a bathroom. Assume the stalls are unusable. There are four urinals on the wall: U1 --- U2 --- U3 --- U4 U1 and U3 are currently being pissed in. Which one of the remianing urinals do you go for, and why? |

Re: Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
For seating, probably just sit across from your friend and have your girlfriend sit across from his girlfriend. At formal dinner parties it is standard to separate couples to induce conversation but this is a small table and not formal. It will be easiest to get to know someone better that you can see without craning your neck and talking away from the rest of the table; hence, you sit next to the person you know best.
The urinal question is dumb in general but I believe the standard response is to use U2 to avoid 'coupling'. NT |

Kramer,
U4, obv. From what I remember this may not be the 'correct' answer according to some site, but I am certain it is right. |

Re: Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
For the seating question I'm with NT. With that arrangement you only really have one awkward situation (the girls across from each other) and the GFs are likely to get along anyway.
U4. Or wait. |

Re: Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
for the double date situation: sitting in anyway is appropriate as long as you are not directly in front of the other girl (or your friend is not directly in front of your gf), most likely situation is you and your gf on one side and you are directly in front of your friend while your gf is directly in front of his gf.
as for the urinals, i will just go to the one closest to me (the entrance) |

Re: Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
U4 seems like the pretty clear answer to me. Might as well let U1 have his privacy instead of making everyone stand in a row. Plus, if U3 finishes up early, its a better situation than if you were at U2, in which case it wouldn't matter who finished first.

Re: Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
Double date-Sit next to your girl, across from the other dude.
Urinal-U4 obviously. This allows you to angle away from the U3 occupant slightly. |

Re: Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
Sit across from your buddy, next to your girl, and it's such an easy U4 vote that's it's not even funny. U2 is so bloody weird to try and enter into.

Re: Double Date Seating Dilemma (and Urinal Dilemma)
As an aside, everyone hates urinals, right? I can understand having a urinal in a small bathroom where there is maybe one stall and one urinal. That's fine. But everyone hates bathrooms with a bunch of urinals. Why not ditch the 4 urinals and just make 2 stalls? Woulden't that make everyone happier?
