Default Casino Arizona Lodging Questions

Best friend and I plan on taking a four or five day trip to Casino Arizona, probably on Tuesday of the coming week. Been looking at Google maps and the CA website tonight and also checked out this 2+2 thread among others from a while back and still have a few questions.

The talk seems to be of high prices but The Inn at Pima is listed on the Casino Arizona Lodging website at $64 per night this time of year (apparently to get this rate you need to register
through the casino). It appears to be only a few miles away from CA. Is this decent, and if not are there better places to stay?

Regarding prices, I'm looking at an old Howard Beale post in this thread and he seems to imply that lodging is actually much more expensive (although in late winter, which is I guess prime time) so I'm wondering if this is a BS price quote or that the place "Inn at Pima" is some sort of dump. The virtual tour on their web site makes it seem OK but maybe the roaches don't show up .

Clff Notes: Any lodging suggestions for Casino Arizona appreciated.

As an aside, will be looking up Percula's 5-150 posts when I get some time & energy. Best friend will mostly be playing 20/40 or 40/80 holdmem. I'll play 8/16 and 20/40 along with the 5-150 spread "NL" holdem.

I'd suggest you call the concierge desk at CA for the poker room rates. I've been told that the Inn at Pima is pretty decent. It doesn't look like much from the outside but that's what I've heard. Regarding the prior thread I was standing right there when my friend was quoted a price well over $100. That doesn't jive with the website, and this isn't the 'season' quite yet, so hopefully you'll get a good price. It's a short drive from the casino. You won't want to walk it. 5 minutes drive further get you the Chapparal Suites which is a pretty nice place. BTW, I think you have to get a players card before they'll arrange for the room.

Give me a HU if you want to say hi. The 8-16 is my main game.

I stayed there last year. It was fine for me. They had broadband available is every room (which I believe was free). It's not the Bellagio, but I thought it was clean, comfortable, and safe. For comparison, I would say that it was about the same as an above average Holiday Inn Express.

Rick:

The deal for Inn at Pima is right up your alleyway, I've heard decent things about that option. If your not planning on traveling anywhere else then you could opt to have the CA limo take you back and forth, but its not a very reliable choice. Just let the CA staff know your intentions in advance, they are surprisingly friendly and helpful for out of towner's like us.

Also I really advise sticking with the 20/40 game, skip the 8/16. Its probably the best 20/40 I've played in to date! The only complaint is that its a ganged must move system that is sometimes 6 or more tables deep, so as you get closer to the main game the players get tougher, simple solution is to quit the game for 20 mins once you get 4 tables into the rotation. Also remember to make sure you are playing during any of their sports promotions, the opponents stop paying attention to their cards, its really bizarre!

Send me a PM before you go... drinks are on me.

By "up my alleyway" I suppose you mean because I drink medium priced boxed wine, order my cigars from JR Cigar (getting the knockoffs of course), and switched to "two buck chuck" Chardonnay from Clous Du Bous (sp?) when my girlfriend favored "two buck" over the $10 bottle in a taste test. If there is late night limo service that would be great. If I get deep in that capped buy 5-150 game (and the game is good) I'm capable of staying much later than my friend, who is pretty much an "old man" type day and early evening player who needs lots of sleep. But I may just take an out button and drive my friend back to the inn if it can be done inside thirty minutes.

Search on my screen name and "+chained" to read a couple of my rants on chained must moves (go back a few years on the date range). Chained must moves destroyed the Bike's 20/40 stud/8, which got up to four or five games most nights before instituting the action killing chain. Who wants to end up in the super main game with stuck, joyless, nits?

As an aside, if the staff really feels they must never lose a must move to mollify the daytime nits, there's a better way. Simply keep track of the game order and when the must move breaks go to the next newest game and draw for a new must move list. That way there is always a must move but one game can feed several. I've seen this done at a few clubs in the LA area without complaint.

Thanks Howard. Getting the casino rate with a non connected hotel can be tricky, but my guess is if I print out the web page with the $64 rate I'll have a better shot. I'll call ahead too. The web page does mention Chaparral Suites, but they quote a rate of $149 per night from Sept 12-May31.

We'll get the players card, we now each have stacks an inch thick from recent travels We hope the food is better than San Manuel, it's the worst casino food we've seen so far.

I'll look for you in the 8/16, but generally I try to avoid being spotted as a 2+2er these days. Keep it low key if we do meet.

I probably look like your friend who needs a lot of sleep. I wear a Dodger's ball cap. I'll be quiet about the 2p2 part but you needn't worry anyway. Most times when I mention 2p2 I get THIS look:

In the old days before the poker world was overrun by 2+2 posters and lurkers and I actually wanted an occasional 2+2er at my card club for bonding purposes I usually got "Um, is it four?" in response to "2+2?".

I'll look for you anyway.

I know its impossible to get you to pay for a drink at our lounge in Phoenix, so I guess I gotta comp ya. Ugh your a cheep f*cker Seriously though if you rent a car, the first two rounds are on me.

I dare you to argue the chained must move concept to the staff at CAZ, its absolutely futile. The staff there is clueless and isolated from the rest of the poker universe. Sad considering how great the room is.

Remember CAZ is in the middle of nowhere... its an experience.

Thats only because most of the players at CAZ are inbred, they have that look naturally. I've never played with so many NASCAR dads before in one room!
