Recommend a nice hotel on a $300 budget in Manhattan
I'm going to be in New York on Sunday night and want to get a room for me and my girlfriend in Manhattan. I'd like to stay in a fairly nice place in a good location, but have no idea about New York.
I am willing to spend in the $300 range for one night. Can someone please recommend a place to me? Also, ideas on what to do for that one night on such short notice would be great. Again, nothing ridiculously expensive. Thank you. |

Re: Recommend a nice hotel on a $300 budget in Manhattan
Both the W Times Square and W Union Square seem nice and in my range ($329). Are these actually nice hotels and which is a better location? I have no idea how far a dollar goes in NY and what is where. (I do know what Times Square is though...)
Googling your list antifish. |

Re: Recommend a nice hotel on a $300 budget in Manhattan
Of the one's recommended, I've narrowed it down to W Times, W Union and the Soho Grand.
The W Times Square seems like a sexy location. If it is right on Times Square, is there any concern with that, or is it a great thing? Excellent views and location are the most important. And seeing as we only have one night, sleeping won't be top of our list. So Times Square noise may not be a bad thing. |

Waldorf
In all actuality, I'm not sure how many NYers would know about the hotels here. I've lived here for over a year and I've never even stepped into a hotel except for the Parker Meridien for some Burger Joint action. |

times square is very touristy and commercial. union square is a nice area that is close to the village, which is by far better for eating and drinking.

[ forgiving the fact that you're a Flames fan ;-) ]
Blow off Times Square unless you're want the tourist experience. If so, then go there. I'd go for the W at Union Square or the Soho Grand, both are great properties. W Union Square + Walk to the village + Short cab to Soho/Tribeca + Super convenient albeit a little formulaic restaurants and bars in pretty much all directions walking + Easier access uptown via subway if that's what you want to do Soho Grand + Best frickin Mac&Cheese I've ever had in their bar, which goes down brilliantly believe it or not with a Sapphire martini also done really well in said bar + Walk to Soho + Walk (albeit a kinda hike) to Noho + Short cab to village + Long walk/short cab to Tribeca, depending on where you go + Uber hip property And as for what to do, look on Time Out New York's website , it will have pretty much everything going on Sunday night. Food, bands, bars, it's all there. And sorry man, but your buck won't go very far ;-) |
