Lots of betting on almost nut flush
I have come to the definite conclusion that I have a lot to learn about this game. So here is my first post...
I was looking over some losing hands over the last few days and came across this gem. I floped the almost nut flush. I remember thinking at the time there was a very small chance that either of the opponents had Ax of clubs. They each had only one out and with lots of bets flying I figured it was a great chance to grab big gains. I bet the heck out of it. Was this the right thing to do or should I have played it more safe? Re: Lots of betting on almost nut flush
What is the point of flatcalling the flop if you're not going to checkraise the turn?
I'm just calling the river raise given your read on button. |

Re: Lots of betting on almost nut flush
I don't like the stop and go ...
I would raise the flop, I tend to beleive you are missing bets when you are ahead here: a solid looking player bets his hand on the flop, if he doesn't have a good flush I don't see him betting the turn after two callers (one of which he should have 'good' stats on) so a check raise really isn't the way to go here and so you bet out (when you are ahead you gain less as he isn't going to go nuts with his hand and will just call. When you are behind, you get raised) as played I don't think I go too crazy with my hand after button (a very un-aggressive player) wakes up with a 3bet |

Re: Lots of betting on almost nut flush
Why do you just call the flop and then bet the turn?
Just call the river based on the read on Button. |

Re: Lots of betting on almost nut flush
this is bad as played, as everyone else has noted, but you really need to LEAD this flop. for like a million reasons.

*grunch*
You should lead the flop since the pot is small and there is no likely bettor. Against a passive Button, I call the turn 3-bet and call down from there. Your chances just went WAY up that someone has Ax [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. |

I think your agression for this hand should've been reversed. Once you flop said almost nut flush, it's betting time. You need to make those with an AXo pay for their shot at the nutflush. If they push back then you can slow down, but this hand is too strong to fold and too vulnerable to not protect. From another angle, the board is obviously scary. Yet you have a better and a caller. There's no need or sense to slowplaying this any way you cut it. You have the green light to raise city no matter which way you cut it. |

Re: Lots of betting on almost nut flush
I was going to post a hand like this. With KTs and KQs I ran into Axs twice in 150 hands tonight. It happens.
On the hand that played similar to your posted hand, I was in position, and just called on the river after the turn got capped when the flush card hit. |
