2/4 B&M - passively waiting for my boat to come in
2/4, B&M, 10 handed, loose & passive table (6/7+ to flop)
BB is a decent player; lately he seems to be a little distracted by how his wife is doing at a SNG on the table beside us. Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] fold, Hero calls, fold, MP1 calls, fold, MP3 calls, fold, Button calls, SB folds, BB checks Flop: (5 players, 5 SB) K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] checked all around Turn: (5 players, 2.5 BB) 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] checked all around River: (5 players, 2.5 BB) 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] BB bets, Hero raises, 3 folds, BB 3bets, Hero calls My plan on both the flop and the turn was to fold if anyone bet. Perhaps I should have led the turn (but three people behind me?) and if raised folded? After thinking about it, I think I really should have 4bet the river, yes? GcluelessnoobG |

Re: 2/4 B&M - passively waiting for my boat to come in
I think the hand is pretty well-played until the river, which I think you should four-bet. Villain has a naked K FAR more often than a boat here. He expects your raise to be with some lesser pair, and so three-bets his K. You're boat is still a big favorite after his three-bet.
I see no need to bet before that. In a live game with that many opponents, you are taking the pot down so rarely. There is always a big risk someone is slowplaying a K, or picked up a draw, or whatever. And the pot isn't all that big. |

loose & passive table [/ QUOTE ] No kidding huh? Yeah I'm 4-betting the river everytime, especially in a B&M game. |

Re: 2/4 B&M - passively waiting for my boat to come in
Thanks, that's what I thought. I soon as I heard myself say "call" I asked myself what I was afraid of. I should have asked myself that question before making the play.
I think one of the things I have to learn is taking the time to make a decision which I sometimes find a little hard to do under pressure at a B&M. |

Play more online. It really helped my B&M game to practice having to make so many more decisions multi-tabling online. Now, playing live feels luxurious because of how much time it seems I have to make each decision.

Re: 2/4 B&M - passively waiting for my boat to come in
I think of the river as a conversation
1 bet: Hey, I'll take a stab 2 bets: I might have a hand, or I might just think you're full of crap 3 bets: I'm not full of crap 4 bets: I don't care, my hand is awesome Call: Oops OR 5 bets: Yeah, well mine is probably even better than awesome Call: OK, maybe you win, maybe not. OR 6-bets: You like sailing? 7-bets: I have a yacht Call: ... |

Re: 2/4 B&M - passively waiting for my boat to come in
I'm the first one to post this, but this river raise is pretty bad.
Think about it, there are like 150 ppl to act after you. Anyone with a PP is calling, anyone with a card that hit the board is calling, and hands like AJ will call as well. This is 2-4 BM. If you just call and someone raises behind you, then 3bet. If you raise, you are basically shutting the whole field out with hands they won't call two with, but really, as many as 3 ppl might call behind you. If I did raise, I'd cap the river everytime, because you can't get 5 bet, it's like a freeroll raise. |
