25NL - Weak play or good gamble?
Against a stack that could felt me I lay this down preflop. My thinking here is see a cheap flop 1st, then after the raise see if I can get a favorable flop against likely high cards.
Party Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.10/$0.25 9 players Converter Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP2 with 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 folds, MP1 calls, Hero calls, 3 folds, SB raises to $1.25, 2 folds, Hero calls. Flop: 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($3, 2 players) SB is all-in $2.55, Hero calls. Turn: 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($8.1, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $8.1) River: 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($8.1, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $8.1) Results: Final pot: $8.1 |

Re: 25NL - Weak play or good gamble?
I lay this down preflop. We play SC's for implied odds. We do not have that here. We could also be raise by a medium pocket pair trying to isolate the short stack. MUCK MUCK MUCK.

You've got this all backwards, you want a stack that can "felt" you, as you can also double through him. You don't want to picking off short stacks pushes with 56s.
Post stack sizes, please. |

65s is an implied odds hand that you would rather play against a deep stack that will pay you off if you hit. i dont see the point of playing it against a short stack that's going to push pretty much every flop.

I think you have it backwards. Against a deep-stack you call with position, hoping to flop a monster. Considering the SB only had $4, you are calling 1.25 at a shot of outflopping him for his $4..easy MUCK.
Edit: LOL i gotta type quicker. |

Bad play, this is the type of hand you want to play against a large stack, so if you crack a good hand, you have a lot to profit from. This isn't a good hand to call that pfr with since he has such a small stack, it doesnt have the potential to be profitable, your call on the flop was justified because of pot odds though.

Re: 25NL - Weak play or good gamble?
Weak play it is then! Thanks for the feedback. I guess my weak thinking was that if I do get commited to a hand like this, I can't get hurt too much. That is plaing scared and not plaing to make money.
Thanks again... One last question. If playing a big stack with this exact hand, have I hit this flop hard enough to push, assuming he bets enough on the flop to price me out with 2 diamonds showing? |

[/ QUOTE ]I wouldn't push here against a bigger stack, I'd wait for a combo draw (flush draw with overcards or with a straight draw). The idea of pushing with a draw is that you have folding equity + equity close or better than 50% if your opponent calls. |
