How much to tip for a Jackpot win
Conversation at the table I was at last week came up about some guy who siffed the dealer who dealt him the jackpot. A few of the players agreed that about 5% was accepable, whereas the dealer said that 10% was more standard from a regular player and less than 5% from people who didn't know what was going on. What is an appropriate tip for winning the jackpot?

Re: How much to tip for a Jackpot win
Zero seems about right to me - well if the dealer has that attitude anyway. When will dealers get it into their heads that it's the players who are risking their money, and therefore the players who deserve all the winnings. Sure I understand that tipping a dollar when you drag a pot keeps the economy functioning like tipping the waitress who brings you a drink. But I fail to see why the dealer should suddenly win $00s ($000s?) of dollars when they had no stake in the game.

Re: How much to tip for a Jackpot win
Dealers rely on tips to make their living. If you win a pot, tip $1. If a guy won a jackpot and completely stiffed the dealer, then he is a jerk but dealers who expect more than $1/pot probably should not be tipped at all. |

The way it looks to me is that a conversation came up. Nowhere did the OP say that a "dealer told me...." or anything like that. Second FYP: [b]When will 2+2ers gett it into their heads that they dont' have to come on here and proclaim their dealer hating attitude every time a tipping or decision thread show up? [/ QUOTE ] |

Once a week you should just post 2 words Tip Dealer let everyone vent. Rinse, repeat. (FWIW no tips in NZ casinos. Dealers nice, friendly etc but players run the game - dealers generally clueless. Sucks) |

They're stating their opinions in a topic titled "How much to tip..." which seems to imply the OP wants people's opinions on how much to tip. edit: Fixed some bold issues. |

Re: How much to tip for a Jackpot win
If I may piggyback a slightly reworded question:
I was part of a table share of a bad beat jackpot, where the split is 40% for the losing hand, 20% for the winning hand, and the rest of the table who received a hand gets to split the remaining 40%. Now, when we hit it, there were 8 who received a hand and we ended up hitting the approx. $8200 jackpot. The table share for our table was approx. $550. Now, my question...Who would be "responsible" for the tip? I always felt that the big or the small portion should handle the tip, seeing how they just won $3200 or $1600 respectively. 1% would be about $80, and I think that 10% = $800 would be too big of a tip, but any amount in-between should be able to be absorbed by the people who took the bulk of the jackpot. As it stood, I didn't see either the small or large portions throw the dealers anything. I like the dealers, and I would have liked to include them on our good fortune, but only winning $550 (in comparions), I didn't want to have it hit too much into my winnings. I also didn't want to bring to the tables attention that we didn't tip them (that I saw). Can anyone share some anecdotal eveidence on what they have done, or seen done, so if I have the good fortune to hit the bad beat again I can handle the situation with acceptable ettiquette? Thanks, rob b |

The entire jackpot should go to the dealer IMO.

[/ QUOTE ] I was merely pointing out that is exactly what threads turn into when they are about tipping. Flame wars and dealer hating threads. I'd think we'd had enough of them. The first reply was stating that the dealer had some kind of attitude when the original post never said anything of the sort. And with the general consensus here at 2+2 about dealers, everyone will jump on the supposed dealer's back about having an attitude about something when there was nothing ever mentioned about it. I had no problem with the OP's question whatsoever, hence the reason why I never said anything about it. To the OP: Tip what you want. The money is yours and do what you please with it. Btw, this is the answer I always give. |

Re: How much to tip for a Jackpot win
I guess I just have a really hard time trying to understand why dealers should get a % of the jackpot. I mean if I won $3200 in the jackpot I'd probably throw the dealer $20. I just don't get why they should expect a percentage of winnings. Its their job to deal. Yes tips are figured into their wage, but a $20 tip will probably give them a nice hourly rate for that hour they were dealing. If I'm going to give anybody a $400-500 cut of my winnings it'll be a charity.
