Default 1st hand no reads. 400NL I floped top set

How'd I do?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (6 handed) internettexasholdem.com

CO ($305.30)
Button ($425.50)
SB ($466.82)
Hero ($400)
UTG ($787.91)
MP ($462.50)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $2.
1 fold, MP calls $4, 1 fold, Button raises to $18, SB (poster) calls $16, Hero calls $14, MP calls $14.

Flop: ($72) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, MP checks, Button bets $55, SB folds, Hero raises to $175 (I'm getting it in no matter what after this),

Looks pretty standard, other options being squeezing preflop, or leading at flop. Given 4way flop, i think i like a lead actually.

can someone explain to me why you think (if you do) that leading is >>>than check raising. I have an idea, but deciding between the two is always an issue for me.

c/r sends to send off the message that you have a monster.

people who raised preflop will raise when you lead this flop often w/ overpairs and the occassionally ambitious will do it with even less than that. A big C/R will allow most good players to dump overpairs relatively easily.

this is why leading and 3 betting is preferable to a c/r many times.

Fine. I'd say this is about the smallest that you should raise to, but anything between 175 and push looks good.

If you lead and BTN raises he will be more commited to the pot then if you c/r. If you check BTN might check behind.
if you lead you might catch some dead money in between if BTN raises. it gives you some cover for when you bet with a draw.
