Anyone seen Idlewild yet?
I just got out of a showing. I liked it, but then again I like Outkast, experimental filmmaking and music videos.
Going in, I heard two major critiques: that it was a two-hour music video (like that's a bad thing) and that it was cliched (what film critics called cliches, rap and hiphop artists call samples). I hate to ruin the surprise, but about half the music is different versions of songs off of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Themes from that album are also present throughout. Aside from Big Boi's sometimes strained acting (3000 and everyone else's is very good, esp. Terrance Howard) and some curious editing choices (the chorus from "Vibrate" has a certain MF word removed, "The Rooster" is also oddly clipped), I found no real faults. Thoughts? |
