Why are people so proud of exceling at things that are easy?
I've been getting stoned kind of a lot lately with my guy friends and I go into pretty deep thought when I'm high rather than acting all giggly like they do... and I was thinking why do people take so much pride in doing easy things to the extreme?
I mean, smoking weed makes me feel good for a little while, but sitting on your ass smoking all day is not in itself impresseive or productive at all. Why do people brag about it still? "Oh, I smoked an ounce today dude!!! I was soooooooo stooooooooned." Or drinking, if you subject yourself to pounding alcohol frequently you're going to build up more of a tolerance. It takes no skill though, and again is not really admirable. Why do guys insist on still bragging about how much they can drink or they drank on night? Why do some people give props (credit/kudos) for this kind of stuff? I hate to sound preachy or anything, but I just feel pretty tired of getting high and drunk as a "bonding" activity with my friends. I'd rather be doing something actually productive like working out, playing sports, hell even playing poker... y'know things that are actually brag-worthy when you get good at them. On my own I'm a very active person, I lift 4 days a week, breakdance 2-3 days a week, win at small stakes poker sporadically (ie: i go weeks without playing sometimes)... but when I'm with my friends it seems like all we pretty much do is get jacked up. dfhdfhfgfdf thank you for listening to me whine. |

Sounds like you don't like your friends.
When that is the case, the feeling is often mutual. |

no, no, no... i dont preach to my friends at all. I am just saying that after a while there is no appeal to me at all in drinking/smoking as an actual activity or reason for chilling y'know? Just typing some thoughts out loud i guess...
Ahem...as you were. |

I'm a little more perplexed over people who are proud about things they had no control over; i.e., their race, sexual orientation, where they were born, etc.

[/ QUOTE ] I think most people who have actualy built up this tolerance to the extreme dont brag about it because they understand it's no longer cool. It's the frat boys who think they know how to drink that brag this one up. |
