Default Just got Rolf slotboom\'s DVD\'s first impressions are favorable.

I have only watched the first one but it was damn good.

I struggle a little bit with his accent but my ear will get trained quickly so that is a non-issue.

I had a misconception about the target audience for his DVD's. I knew they were NL but I assumed they were for experienced NL players with the fourth DVD helping NL players switch to limit. It appears the first three are for experienced limit players to help them make the transistion to NL play.

I should have bought these immediately.

I am not the sharpest crayon in the box so it is going to take me quite a while to understand everything that is going on just on the first DVD.

There hasn't been much discussion about this set of DVD's so I didn't get in a hurry to buy them but so far they are really good.

That's good. I may need electroshock to stop paying off with TPGK.

How about a little more info to whet the appetite? How does he present? What is the format? Is it similar to Ed Miller or Phil Gordon or Annie Duke -style?

Very similar to Ed Miller, sans eyebrows of course. Sits behind an Mac, same table grahpics, better sound quality on the first DVD.

Seems to be a fan of mini raises with speculative hands but gives a very good explanation why, lots of other preflop plays that I don't remember reading about.

Remember this is my first veiwing of the first DVD but he seems to do a really good job of explaining why he does what he does.

The monetary shock isn't enough?

Edit - I am planning on picking this up when Rolf's PLO book comes out later this month, no need to pay double shipping...

I received my DVDs and watched the first one.

I was glad to see that as SteamBoatin' said, the production has been somewhat cleaned up from what we saw in the Ed Miller DVDs. There is better sound, better (but not good) lighting, and improved graphics. It's funny that, given a similar treatment but without Ed's monstrous eyebrows, Rolf's forehead looks HUGE.

I had no problem understanding Rolf's accent. There were a couple of instances where it wasn't clear what he meant, but this probably isn't a language issue as the same thing happened with Ed. One annoying detail is that they use the same musical theme as Ed's DVDs-- repeated again and again, this starts to sound like fingernails on a chalkboard after a while.

So far as poker material is concerned, there seems to be quite a bit of value for me (a limit player with little NL experience). However, having read (though not thoroughly studied) HOH 1/2 and part of NLTAP, some of his advice seemed surprising and might be controversial. I would really like to get the opinions of some more experienced NL players on this point.

I was a little disappointed in one thing, and that is that the conceptual framework is not nearly as clear to me as it was for Ed's Limit HE DVDs. This may be just because limit already makes some sense to me, but the examples did not always seem well connected to central ideas. Hopefully the connections will be clearer on further viewings and as I integrate the information with knowledge from my 2+2 books.

Speaking of monetary shock, shipping was free from pokergurus.com (along w/ a 10% price break).

He has an errata list on his website. DVD Errata list

It looks like four items none of which amount to anything. IMHO

They're awesome and I still get something out of rewatching them now. I wish the guy played tourneys so I could watch him on TV.
