$4/180 SnG on Stars - Ace or no?
Hi, first time posting on 2 + 2. I'm an inexperienced player who's looking to improve my game. I ask for your help.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Hero (t2160) Button (t1560) SB (t1350) BB (t1110) UTG (t1860) UTG+1 (t1100) MP1 (t1400) MP2 (t1340) MP3 (t3020) Preflop: Hero is CO with T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 2 folds, MP1 calls t20, MP2 calls t20, 1 fold, Hero raises to t100, 2 folds, BB calls t80, MP1 folds, MP2 calls t80. Flop: (t330) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) BB bets t100, MP2 folds, Hero ??? Is this a bluff or what? I don't know anything about other player, and I'm not really sure if my hand holds up. It seems to me that betting 1/3 of the pot doesn't make any sense if he had an Ace, but I really dont know where I stand. If I'm beat, calling doesn't make any sense, and if I'm winning it seems like I would want to raise. What should I do? |

I call and re-evaluate on the turn. Obv if you're beat you would want to fold, but you don't know that. You'll find out more info on the turn after seeing his action.

Re: $4/180 SnG on Stars - Ace or no?
I'm not offering any hand help to the OP, but I wish other posters (new AND some relatively old) would look at this and see how damn impressive it is. 2 posts, first time on 2+2, PERFECT hand posting. read the FAQ, followed the guidelines, didn't ask stupid questions, used the converter.
Well done, sir. |

Re: $4/180 SnG on Stars - Ace or no?
Thanks.
Alright, if I was to call, what kind of card are safe and what kind of card scares me? It seems only a Ten would be safe. An Ace might be ok. An over card to my Tens seems like it would be a problem. If he comes out betting again, what can I do? Do I just call a small bet and fold to large one? If so how is this superior to raising or folding on the flop? |

Re: $4/180 SnG on Stars - Ace or no?
Honestly this is a sticky spot, it happens a lot with the donk bettors online. Call and reevaluate on the turn, its very likely that he bets small again. If he does, call. I would fold facing a big bet.

Re: $4/180 SnG on Stars - Ace or no?
Come over the top - it's the only way to know where you are. I use a play like this a lot from the blinds - the flop comes paired paint cards and if you bet at it people lay down. He wouldn't be betting if he had an ace - rainbow board, no straight draws. I guess he might have been playing ace-rag, but my own read says this smacks of a medium pair. Players in micros call with pp way more than they should. I would make this 300 to go every time. As you say, the only card which doesn't scare now is a ten so we want that pot. If he raises then we lay it down, if he calls then c/f on the turn unless a ten.
Potting it here is the best option imo. |

Re: $4/180 SnG on Stars - Ace or no?
I like re-raising to 250-300 to see what he does. If he calls, I'll tend to try to get to the river as cheaply as possible or fold to a large bet. If he 3-bets, then I'll give him credit for the A and fold.

If villain has the ace, you are spewing chips. If he doesn't, you are representing it and he is folding a hand that you probably beat (except KK, QQ, and JJ). You call and you make $ from the PPs that this poster seems to think he has. You raise and he folds those PPs. The only hand that calling hurts with here is JJ. If villain has a PP he probably won't be able to fire big on the turn after your PFR and flop call. If he has an Ace, he will fire big and you can fold. I call and evaluate. |
