Default mag\' nol ia

I love this movie and I love paul thomas anderson (see avatar/location/title)

however everytime I watch this movie I want to stab myself in the chest elliott smith style. I think, as far as a movie goes, that's a good thing. however apparently many peiple hate this movie. I woule like to hear from the haters about the problems with this movie cause I'm watching the frogs rain and thinking avout how this is easily one of the best movies ever.

maybe its just cuause I'm partial to ensemble cast movies though.

I haven't watched it in a long time, but I remember being very disappointed.

As the movie went along, i was convinced that I'd LOVE it by the end. But, then frogs started falling, and I was feeling cheated.

There are a lot of threads on this movie.

I express my hatred of it in all of them

Could you explain the following:

"I'm watching the frogs rain and thinking avout how this is easily one of the best movies ever"

In anticipation...

uhm... I dunno, its 2 hours and 50 minutes of a great movie, I don't think it can be spoiled by a confusing ending. orrrrrr because I understand both reasons for the raining frogs (which I do think that pta should have tried to explain better, maybe with a voiceover like the beginning or something)

I also just realized that I think I started a thread on this movie like a year ago and every hated it then too.

also, much of the enkoyment of this movie for me comes from empathizing with the different characters and their plights. I wonder if those who are less empathetic people enjoy the movie less? or people who don't enjoy being sad?

thinking out loud....

It's a spectacular movie. P.S. Hoffman is great, especially in the scenes with the dying man (who's name I forget), and Juliana Moore is blazing hot when she sobs uncontrollably.

fwiw, i am also a minority among my friends who hate it. they say that the resolution is dumb, frogs or no frogs.

i actually think that one of the better points of the movie is the acting. the plot/screenplay is amazing, but i was blown away by everyone's character.

mason, check the thread in TQZ. Just search "Magnolia," it was recently.

Also, whoever said it, Julianne Moore is not "blazing hot" ever, wtf.

Maybe I need to watch it again, but I just remember how frustrated I was when it was over. The interweaving stories of the characters were so overwhelmingly fake and contrived (to me) that it over-rode what might have been a good ensemble cast, as you say.

And the froggies at the end just made me laugh. A sad, disappointed laugh...! Maybe I missed some deeper 'meaning' here, but maybe the 'meaning' could have been done in some other less random and unbelievable fashion.

I have never reacted that badly to a film, perhaps its because I had so wanted to like it? I enjoy being depressed!
