Default 3-handed push hands. Let\'s get together and figure this out.

I've been having real trouble 3-handed lately. I think I'm playing alright and just running bad but I'd like to be sure.

Assuming average opponents... (I know, big assumption)... who are sane and call at a reasonable rate, what are *you* pushing on the BUTTON 3-handed when effective stacks are:

10x BB
9x BB
8x BB
7x BB
6x BB
5x BB
4x BB
3x BB
2x BB

I'm assuming there's an ante, though it should make too much difference 3-handed.

Discuss.
Ryan

doesn't it depend on what they are calling with?

I think he was considering the "average opponent" and their calling ranges. I think the more important variable is the stack of each of the others and their position. i.e., big stack in BB or SB, two equal stacks, are you the big stack (w/ 8-10bb), all three equal stacks, etc.

I've had a pretty big chunk of thirds lately and I'm not sure what its stemming from either.

I have a pounding headache, but this is what I have on a first pass. I reserve the right to declare this post null and void once the hadache passes.

It depends on the exact stack setup but the zero edge pushing % would be...

10 bb = 36%
5 bb = 41%

Then you take some off the top depending on what kind of edge you are looking for. From the button I would push at least 25% of the time with even 10 bb stacks.

Hey Ryan.

If I'm at 10X BB, my M is only like 6.5, so even if I'm the big stack, the blinds are pretty big.

I like to look at my opponents as well as stack sizes. A tight opponent is more likely to fold (obviously) unless he's only got two rounds of blinds left. Then he's likely to go in with any decent hand. If we're all at about 10X the blind, I'm actually more comfortable in making a raise, because I think marginal to average hands are more likely to fold since they don't want to damage their stack (since it's virtually a three way tie). If I'm at 10X and my opponents are at 3-4X, then they'll probably want to get involved with any hi-card or moderate hand, so I might be inclined to bet out with weaker hands I don't want called (especially if I dn have any money in the pot).

Overall, I would be pretty aggressive with any pair, A 8 or better, K 8 or better, Q 10, Q J, and any two cards 10 or better. Also, suited connectors are fun to raise with three handed.

With the blinds so big, it's hard, it becomes bingo sometimes, so I just try to pick spots that look good and go in strong.

I don't know if I'm answering your question, but I would love to hear what you think.

Peace,
Mister Owl

Oh, and when I say JT+, it includes higher face cards, like QT+ and KT+.

This is too vague because we don't know the other people's stack sizes.
