Does deep tissue massage \"release toxins\"?
Recently over dinner my stepbrother claimed that after after a rigorous deep tissue massage he noticed that his pee tended to be a deeper yellow and stronger in odor than normal. He claimed that this was because a deep tissue massage "releases toxins," which are then flushed out via peeing.
I chimed in that this sounded like it might be pseudoscience mumbo jumbo but he claimed it as fact. He happens to have a PhD in physical therapy so he's presumably not completely talking out of his ass, yet I remain uconvinced. A cursory Google search has proved fruitless. What say you, OOT? Argle bargle, or fooferall? |

Re: Does deep tissue massage \"release toxins\"?
My understanding is that this is true. You're supposed to drink a lot of water after a deep tissue massage, and you're never supposed to get one hung over is my understanding also. I could be very wrong on this though, I have no proof to back it up.

Re: Does deep tissue massage \"release toxins\"?
It sounds as credible as high doses of vitamins combined with hot saunas expelling toxins through the skin. That's what the Scientologists, say, anyway, and they have "science" in their name (kinda), so it must be right.

Re: Does deep tissue massage \"release toxins\"?
I have had two massage therapists tell me this as well, although they may just be stoned.

Re: Does deep tissue massage \"release toxins\"?
So the "deep tissue techniques" will "get the toxins out" how exactly? How do "the toxins" travel to your bladder to get pissed out? What part of your body do they come from?

[/ QUOTE ] I think the idea is that they get into your blood, are filtered out in the kidneys and then pissed out like any other toxins... I am no expert in this field however. Doesn't sound too far-fetched to me NT |
