Default Two teams in same division with 100+ wins?

Has this happened before? The Tigers and White Sox are on pace for 110 and 105 wins respectively. There's little chance of both staying on pace, plus they have 13 games between them still left.

1. Has this happened before?

2. What are the odds they both have 100+ wins at season's end?

3. If only one team gets above the 100 win mark, who is it?

The AL East has had 2 teams with 95+ wins the last 3 years.

I know it doesn't answer any of your questions, but I thought I would share.

I remember the year before the WC started ('93, I believe), the Braves and Giants both finished with over 100 wins and the Giants didn't make the playoffs.

Yes, the most famous one recently. I thought I saw somewhere that this event was a catalyst in the WC being born but I'm not sure. Anybody? JoA?

This is usually my argument AGAINST the Wild Card. That was a terrific race and with the WC it would've sucked.

I don't know the odds but if I had to guess that the ChiSox would finish with 101 wins and the Tigers would finish with 99.

I, too, hate the wildcard. But, I am only pretentious without writing articles.

Is it safe to say that with the wild card, there will never be a great pennent race ever again?

The best you can expect now is 3rd best in one league vs. 4th (which probably means a battle of 90-70 teams).
