$60 ITM - TT with limpers and awkward stacks
PokerStars Tournament, Big Blind is t200 with t25 antes (3 handed) Converter on pregopoker.com
Button (t4295) SB (t5470) Hero (t3735) Preflop: Hero is in BB with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Button calls t200, SB calls t100, Hero? Obviously I'm raising here. The thing that bugs me about pushing is the stacks are so big, that I'm only getting called by a limped monster. So either racing or crushed. Ok maybe 88. Seems like I have to take the blinds like 95% of the time to be profitable or something. Is pushing really profitable here, or do I want to give some lesser hands a chance to call something like a 1k raise? |

Re: $60 ITM - TT with limpers and awkward stacks
i still push. making a normal raise (1k) is gonna leave you even more short stacked. plus the fact that the pot will be 2k+ by the flop means if you wanna follow up a cbet, thatll cost you another 1k at least. i definetley dont want action here and i would make the move that maximizes my FE.

Re: $60 ITM - TT with limpers and awkward stacks
I push here. The smooth caller is more likely to call your raise and you will be out of position against him the rest of the hand so i am not thrilled about raising off more than a quarter of my stack with a hand vulnerable to overcards. There are 575 chips in the middle. I dunno; seems like a straight forward push to me.

Re: $60 ITM - TT with limpers and awkward stacks
Very tough spot. I like a raise to 1k, which will most likely eliminate our SB limper. Then I push almost any flop. I don't like pushing at all, I'd rather just check and play some poker than push here if those were the only two options.

Re: $60 ITM - TT with limpers and awkward stacks
Raise something, although I wouldnt push, Id raise to like 900, your hand just has a bit too much value for me to go crazy in a 3 handed game. I don't mind a call THAT much. Also shorthanded your opponents will pay you off with more hands that lose to your TT postflop than they would earlier in the tourney. So its like if someone calls with A8 and it comes J84 they might lose all their chips or whatever.

what stack size would warrant a push here?

Re: $60 ITM - TT with limpers and awkward stacks
A stack is OK here. The question is if raising is better. The advantage to raising is as Curtains pointed out. The advantage to pushing is that you out of position, which you don't have to worry about if you push.
At some point as the stacks become smaller, pushing becomes definately better. I don't know exactly where that is. Maybe around 13 or 14 x BB? |
