50NL Quads (3 on the board) vs unknown - raise amount?
Villain is unknown. Sometimes I will raise these hands in LP, sometimes I won't.
In retrospect, my turn bet screamed "I have an A". River raise standard? Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) BB ($49.25) UTG ($77.40) MP ($41.05) Hero ($76.87) Button ($39.34) SB ($24.19) Preflop: Hero is CO with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.25. UTG calls $0.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.50, 1 fold, SB (poster) completes, BB checks. people aren't folding the FH ever. If he's got a king, he's calling the push.

As soon as i read the thread title, I knew what i was going to say: "push river" so villain can fold his second best hand [/ QUOTE ] FYP. I think OP played it fine. He got a call of nice raise. Sure it looks like OP did not maximize value because he got called, but hero's goal should be to make a bet that villain can call, not auto push and pray villain is an idiot. I know at NL$100 and NL$200 the average player does not call a push here. If NL$50 is different then ignore me. |

frank,
you really think villain EVER folds a king here if we push? I think he does maybe 1 in 10, 1 in 20 times. He has to fold it very often for a push to be less +EV than OP's bet |

Re: 50NL Quads (3 on the board) vs unknown - raise amount?
I think the limit that this hand was played on is the most important piece of information we have on whether to push or value raise. A push won't work enough of the time @ 200NL to make it more profitable than a regular raise.

Unless you have a read that the guy is willing to go to the felt with an obvious 2nd best hand then I like making a bet he can call 95% of the time with a K or any mid-PP. Pushing is fun, but few will call a push with 3 aces showing. Some may push representing the Ace, which is what OP would be doing. I think the right answer really depends on hero's table rep. If he is viewed as tight (either through play or dead cards) I doubt he gets action. Someone is playing very aggressively will get more action and will have a better success rate pushing this. I know when I play, I can get a nice raise in here, but will almost never get paid if I push a trips board. |

Clear push.
No one ever believes anyone has quads. Heck, I dont. |
