How come there are no stars in the background of this picture?

Cause the stagehands forgot to paint them on the backdrop?

My real guess is that the Earth is bright enough to wash them out. A full moon can make it difficult to see stars, and Earth is a lot bigger and (I'd guess) brighter, so it stands to reason it would wash everything out.

You don't see stars when the moon is in the 7th house and jupiter aligns with mars. Any amateur astrologist could've told you that.

Ok, here's my serious guess...

First, the camera was focused on the earth so the background being out of focus didn't catch any stars.

Second, From earth the stars appear to twinkle due to our atsmophere. There is no atmosphere on the moon. Light doesn't refract like it does on earth. Still...

I suspect if you were actually on the moon, you'd be able to see tons of stars.
