Because of all this [censored] going down because of this splicer guy I downloaded Snoopfree and installed it. Almost immediately it popped up saying that windows messenger is trying to hook my keyboard. I blocked it but am now thinking WTF was that? Years ago I thought I blocked windows messenger from even being able to run. Anyone know what's going on here, am I being targeted?

Just because something pops up doesn't mean that you have a keylogger after you. There are some legit programs that need screen information to work properly, though very often these programs might not be needed and you can block them anyway.
Google the program name of the file that it is saying is trying to hook to your keyboard. If you don't find anything that makes you think you need that program be safe and deny it access. Just an example. I am on my IBM laptop and this file popped up but is harmless. C:WINDOWS\system32\tp4serv.exe |

A keylogger is something that records every key stroke you make on your comp and sends it to a 3rd party. Generally, these are used to get passwords. You should be very concerned about them. Make sure you have a good antivirus program.

You will see many programs come under alert on Snoopfree for the required keyboard hooks a lot of programs have. I had applications like firefox and quicktime get alerted by snoopfree. As long as you virus scan and have snoopfree running, your computer already has a high amount of protection.

When something is detected, there's an option or button for more info. Read it before panicking. Screengrabs are often done for window redraw purposes. Keyboard hooks are another story. It gives you a threat level, which is a good indicator of the, errr, threat.

Haha... Snoopfree is warning me about SpyBot and Adaware. [/ QUOTE ] There are complaints of program interference on download.com. How is your machine running with snoopfree installed? I have spybot and adaware installed as well. Also, what antivirus program do you have? I am using avg free. Just want to make sure there aren't any nasty problems with so many security programs running. |

Also, what antivirus program do you have? I am using avg free. [/ QUOTE ] IMO, the best antivirus package is Avira PersonalEdition at www.free-av.com. It picks up stuff which Symantec's Norton Utils does not, and it does not require a dual-core CPU with 2GB of RAM to run effectively. I would recommend keeping Avira for your realtime protection, since they update definitions daily. And then run a periodic scan for infection with both AVG and Avira. |
