It absolutely is sometimes a set, but not that often.
A call is definitely +ev at this blind level in the 4/180s. |

seems strange he would want to risk all his chips with thi sflop, maybe a set, maybe top pair trying to drown out the flush draw, most likely Ace high. I call

Get it in 100% of the time. Beginning of a 4/180 this could be TPNK, flush draw, underpair, 72o etc. If it's set oh well fire up another one baby!!

oh by the way for all you who say these are donkeyfests so call here bc they could have anything. i think it is all the more reason to fold bc there will be another spot for a donkey to pay you off when you have the hammer which you don't, in my opinion, have here. i responded first and then read everyone elses answers and was laughing that im the only one who says fold. guess im the donkey!!!!! i think hellmuth folds here if thats any consolation. lol

Pretty standard call. Check raise AI = flush draw or combo draw most of the time. Maybe 77 or 99. Sometimes a set too, but not enough to make this a fold.

What if he gets moved to another table and you never see him again? What if he gets it all in on the next two hands with nothing and goes broke? You have to take your edges against bad players when you can get them. There just isn't enough time to do otherwise. A8 shows up here a lot BTW. Anyhow, as for Hellmuth. First of all he usually plays in tournaments that are much deeper than this, so of course he would fold. He has plenty of time to make the chips up and anyone shoving a deep stack this early has a monster. Also, he is one of (if not the) best player in the tournament. So again, given the deep stacks and long rounds, he has time to make up the cEV he is giving up here. This is a 4/180 with short stacks and fast blinds (like most online MTTs). You have to take your edges when you get them. |
