all-in on the first hand (and a string raise ruling.) pocket tens.
4 full tables at a b+m cardroom the day after thanksgiving. several comments from dealers about this being the biggest crowd in a long time. one rebuy is allowed when you have less than 1000 chips. the buy-in was $25. the starting stack is 5000 chips. this was the first hand. blinds are 50/100.
hero is in the BB with TT. 2 folds, guy calls 100, 2 folds, boy calls 100, 3 folds Hero says "I raise...300," and I put 300 more in the pot, making it 400. someone not in the pot calls string raise and the dealer makes me take back 100. i do so calmly and without protest. (is that really a string raise? did i pause too long before saying 300?) guy calls 200, boy raises to 600, Hero calls 300, guy raises to 5000 (all-in), boy calls 4400 (all-in), Hero??? |

firstly, your preflop raise is just horrible.
Second of all, I don't understand how that was a string bet...so that's dumb. Thirdly, you probably need to fold. |

firstly, your preflop raise is just horrible. [/ QUOTE ] smooth checking such a nice pocket pair struck me as risky. i welcomed the reraise and felt good calling it. was that bad too? [ QUOTE ] Second of all, I don't understand how that was a string bet...so that's dumb. [/ QUOTE ]thank you. the dealer knew nothing about poker. she was a blackjack dealer. she let someone not in the pot call the floor for a ruling on a later hand. [ QUOTE ] Thirdly, you probably need to fold. [/ QUOTE ]is this because both players have me beat? the guy could be making a bastardized squeeze play or just ready to rebuy. i felt he was isolating me with that push, but then the boy called quickly. i agree, tens don't look so good anymore. |

Re: all-in on the first hand (and a string raise ruling.) pocket tens.
your reraise is too small, thats why it sucks. (Assuming the string bet wasn't called) you only raise 4xBB when you are out of position. with stacks at 5k, you are getting called by both players. make it 500 to go, hoping to get one of them out. TT sucks OOP against two players. This early i might just check the BB; you hand is disguised and I wouldnt be fond of making a proper raise with TT OOP with these stack sizes. Chances are thats gonna be a crap c-bet you will have make.
in a $25 rebuy, i insta-call this. and yeah, thats a stupid string bet call. |

try mixing it up everytime there are already players in the pot by adding one bb for each

PF - make it 500
***If you want to get away from this 'string bet' call, don't announce your raise amounts, or clearly say I raise to <enter # here>, or <#> more, saying I raise 300 does mean raise to 300 total in the b&m tourney's I've played ***I fold here, esp if I think I'm better than the opposition, you are looking at a best case scenario of two AK's, but more likely 3-4 overs, rarely an underpair ***don't know why i'm putting these ***'s |

in a $25 rebuy, i insta-call this. [/ QUOTE ] I think I muck TT here this early. In a donkfest you're probably more likely to have a bunch of idiots with KJo or QJo in there versus small pairs (two face cards wow!!). I would call with JJ though. |
