for the authers of the new no-limit book
im kinda getting excited about this book and will go get it. but there is a few things i want to say. us regular 1-2 mississippi players seem to have hit on the spr theory accidently because we have realized that normal raises never work. it seems to me that the average raise in these games is like 12-16. which is 6bb-8bbs. this would give you a good spr with a 100bb stack. but what about when you have been playing for awhile and have grown your stack to something like 300bb? does not the spr begin to break down? even if you raise that standard 6bb-8bbs you are in that troublesome area. is that discussed in this book?

Re: for the authers of the new no-limit book
i have just read the magazine forum and found the answers. i do think that a lot of on-line players have no clue when it comes to brick and mortar games as i'm beginning to see that this book is tailer made for these games. even raising 6bb will get you plenty of action regularly. maybe not on the internet. ive have played in some where the average raise was 10bb and that got at least 2 callers.

Re: for the authers of the new no-limit book
Those raise sizes you mention are very standard for live 1/2 games. Not necessariy "very standard" but you see lots of play like that.
To answer your question, it's not your stack size that matters, it's your effective stack size. If you have 400BB and the 2 guys that call you have 100BB each, then you are playing with 100BB stacks. If everyone has 400BB stacks, then you are playing deep stack poker and you have to be careful. |

Re: for the authers of the new no-limit book
facepull,
SPR provides a method for managing stack sizes and effective odds. It can be used with any stack size. A $1-$2 loose live game with 100-150bb stacks provides a near-nirvana situation for applying SPR. The limitations are also detailed in the book. Hope you like it. You're gonna hate the hand on page 21 or 22 after the everyone-calls-$10 hand though. It's a replay where everyone calls $1,000. But, we had to illustrate absolute vs. relative dollars somehow for beginning players, and an absurdly extreme example seemed the best way. Matt |
