Default Hotels near AC, not disgusting

I'm going to AC this Saturday to cover a boxing fight. I see that the farther away you get from the boardwalk the cheaper the rooms, duh. I'm not in a position to spend 250-300 for a room on the boardwalk. But, I also know that AC can be a very scary place to be. I will be with my fiance and her friend, so I don't want to be fearing for my life. How are the cities of Abescon and nearby cities. Thanks for any help on cheaper rooms near the walk.

Comfort Inn North in Absecon is my go-to hotel if I can't score a cheap room at the Taj/Borg. No frills, but it's clean, and has a basic no-protein breakfast for free.

Borgata will be $220+ on Saturday night...

in Absecon, right on the AC Expressway, there's a strip of good standard hotels...safe and decent price

the Howard Johnson right beside the Trop is another idea, if you want the whole AC feel
