Your question contains its own answer.

This site is an offshoot of Tradesports, which used to have both sports betting and these kinds of futures markets on election results and similar all lumped in together. When UIGEA passed, they started to separate the sports betting from the political futures--existing customers were given the opportunity to move some or all of their cash balances to Intrade (I moved all--I so rarely bet on sporting events, I figured I was better off having all my money where it was likely to be used most often).

Believe it or not, the rules are different for betting on sporting events vs. betting on whether or not Comrade Hillary is our next President. Although I'm sure all of these differences will be revisited in UIGEA 2, coming soon to a US Congress near you.
