Default Highest-traffic forum you participate in? (besides this)

Inspired by a couple of posts in About the Forums suggesting that the current software is going to have the same performance issues eventually.

Where else do you waste your time online?

http://www.big-boards.com/ has a list of some of the biggest message boards out there. Plenty of them run Vbulletin or phpBB, some write their own.

Quite honestly, just about any reasonable forum software can handle a large load if you have a competent sysadmin.

2p2's history clearly shows they don't:
(1) Do we all remember the "wood-panel" update that looked like a gradeschooler designed it?
(2) Are they even aware of a test/development server? Why have we had to deal with a non functional system for the last week?

The site you listed has 2+2 as by far the highest post count for any board using UBB and other comments from the admins here point to the UBB development people themselves having told 2+2 that the software can't handle much more traffic. I think there were comments to that effect in some threads that we lost due to the rollback.

Am I wrong in believing that the current software is reaching the end of its reasonableness?

Err, answer that question in ATF. I guess what I am interested in is knowing how many different forums people participate in.

Pokr,

I used to be a very regular visitor to www.televisionwithoutpity.com. This goes back nearly five years, and it's worth noting they have made zero functionality or cosmetic changes over the years. The site today looks exactly like it did five years ago. If it aint broke...

I'm very surprised to see that site not make the big boards list. It gets a ton of traffic. Maybe it doesn't qualify for some reason. In my years of being a member I only made 100 posts or so, which would equate to a bad week for me here. Mostly because the forums are overrun by fat chicks and gay guys and I can't relate to either of these groups (more specifically, there are radioactive levels of misogyny as all the female posters just destroy every actress and female reality show contestant from every conceivable angle).

It was a couple years ago that someone in the WPT thread at that site kept referencing 2+2 so I came here to read the (awful) TV forum, and then found OOT when my "friend" bd8802 mentioned this forum in an e-mail.

The busiest I regularly visit is AVS ( http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/ ), which is only 5 positions ahead of this board.

Thing is that I never would have guessed that 2p2 is nearly as busy as AVS. The reason I don't go to AVS that often is because it is so busy, it's hard to get useful information.

Almost forgot, I also go to dpreview's forums ( http://www.dpreview.com/forums/ ), which is #29. Now THAT site has crappy software--no flat view! You can only see one post at a time!

SoSH is probably the busiest, and it's not nearly the size of 2p2

http://www.gaiaonline.com/ - this place is insane. I am addictid to it, and will likely spend 2-3 hours on it every night during summer.

http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ - learn how to become rich via the interweb

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/ b/c sometimes 2+2 dosn't cut it
